Martin and Jennifer and their child Laura... Final pickup June 13, 2005

Hi Everyone

Well Laura is with us safe and sound now, and we are about to have our first meal with her. We left about 10:30am and it took about hour 15 to get there. We went straight to the orphange where the director was just as miserable, but Laura smiled. She would not let us look around the place and would not let us change her into the clothes we had taken. Laura wimpered a little when she first came in but I was able to calm her easily, and once we tickled her she was all smiles when we came to leave she was pulling me by the hand out of the door. We were there about 40 minutes and then headed over to the hotel that we stayed in last time. The family was there and were thrilled to see us and Laura. We gave Nicky (don't know how to spell the name) the cd and he was very pleased. We stayed and had lunch there and Bilyana translated for us.

Laura was as good as gold and sat with each of us for a while, then she wanted to walk so both mum and I walked with her around the resturant and then outside and then she did not want to come in. After lunch which was about hour to an hour and half we went into the town and showed mum around a little bit, by the time we got back to Sofia it was 5pm. Laura was so good in the car she played with the barbie and made lots of noises and laughed. Since being back she went straight to playing and looking at things. Nicky had given her a balloon which she is just loving hitting and playing with. She has had no trouble adjusting at all and is taking everthing in her stride nothing so far has phased her. Martin is right now walking around the garden of the hotel and Laura does not want to come in, she copies everything that we all do and Martin even got her to smell the flowers. Her hair has grown a lot so she now looks more like a little girl even though it is still short but it won't take long before it is long. I was able to put the slides in her hair even. When I first went to put them in I was not going to as I thought she might get upset but on the contrary she got upset when I did not put them in and they have been in ever since. We bought a little straw hat which she also likes. The size 2 clothes are a little big and she would still fit into 12 months I am sure. The shoes are also one size to big. Well can not think of anything else right now just hope she goes to bed as good as she has been all day.

Well it is a while since typing this and we now have Laura in bed. We took her a walk in the stroller which she sat in with no problem not even a wimper (most people who adopt say the children will not go in them) we then got her changed and put her in the crib she wimpered a little, but then just sat there. After 15 mins Martin layed her down and she started sucking her thumb and with in 5mins was fast asleep. Who would have thought this little girl could take so much in and trust total strangers who now call themselves her Mummy and Daddy. Lets hope she sleeps all night.

Well should go and check on my daughter so will send more updates later..
